Empowering Youth Through Climate-Smart Aquaponics in Musanze
NjordFrey is proud to be delivering an innovative aquaponics training and production facility at the Musanze Youth Centre in partnership with Enabel. The project combines sustainable fish and vegetable production, renewable energy, and practical skills development to create a hands-on learning environment for young people in Rwanda.
The facility will be operational towards the end of 2026 and will provide training for 25 people with a strong focus on youth and women, equipping them with valuable skills in climate-smart agriculture, aquaculture, and modern food production systems. Alongside desktop and hands on training, the site will operate as a commercial demonstration farm, producing fresh vegetables and fish while showcasing how innovative agricultural technologies can improve food security and strengthen climate resilience. Pictures from the initial site assessment to inform the final design are shown below.
As one of Rwanda's leading aquaponics demonstration sites, the project represents an important step towards building a new generation of agricultural entrepreneurs and supporting the transition to more sustainable and resource-efficient food systems across the country.
